The Forth Session

On the morning of June 17, 2016, the 4th Shenzhen International Low Carbon City Forum opened. Nearly 2,000 government officials, low carbon leaders, experts and scholars from more than 40 countries and regions had in-depth discussions around the theme of “Green-Innovation: the New Power of Urban Transformation and Development”, which set up a communication platform for the development of green transformation of the city, and contributed to promote international cooperation in addressing climate change.

On June 17, 2016, the 2016 Workshop on South-South Cooperation Policies and Actions to Address Climate Change was held at the Shenzhen International Low Carbon City Forum. Chinese and foreign experts discussed and exchanged views on the promotion of South-South cooperation on low-carbon technologies, industrial strategies for urban low-carbon development, and Shenzhen’s practices and experiences. Liu Yanhua, Counsellor of the State Council and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology delivered a speech.

On June 17, 2016, at the 2nd Green Low Carbon Development Forum of Pearl River Delta (PRD) City Clusters, a parallel forum to the 4th International Low Carbon City Forum, leaders and experts from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan and other PRD cities gathered together to have a lively discussion on the green and low carbon development of the PRD city clusters, and to exchange development paths. During the same period, the forum also signed a memorandum of cooperation on green and low-carbon development planning and research in Pingxinqing (Pingshan, Qingxi and Xinwei) of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou, and released the UELDI of PRD to help the transformation and development of new urbanization.

At the Launching Ceremony of the Carbon Trading Forum on the Shenzhen - Baotou Carbon Market Cooperation, Li Ganming, then Deputy Secretary General of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Cai Yu, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Liu Qingyim, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Baotou Municipality and other leaders were present.

On June 17, 2016, the 4th Shenzhen International Low Carbon City Forum held the award ceremony for the 2016 “BlueSky Award” for Global Renewable Energy Leading Technologies. “The Enzymatic Vegetative Biodiesel Technology” of Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Dongguan Innovation Center, and “the Cellulosic Aviation Fuel Technology” of Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other 8 technologies were awarded the 2016 “BlueSky Award”.
