  • On May 3, 2012, the High-Level Conference on China-EU Urbanization Partnership was held in Brussels, Belgium. Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech entitled “Break New Ground in Pursuing China-EU Strategic Cooperation on Urbanization”; Mayor of Shenzhen, Xu Qin, was invited to make a speech and put forward a proposal on the pragmatic promotion of the partnership on sustainable urbanization between Shenzhen and the EU. He emphasized the cooperation between Shenzhen and the Netherlands in the planning and construction of Shenzhen International Low Carbon City to build a flagship project of Sino-European sustainable urbanization cooperation.

     

    On the morning of August 21, 2012, the launching ceremony of Shenzhen International Low Carbon City Start-up Area Project was held in Gaoqiao Industrial Park, Pingdi Street, Longgang District, marking the official opening of the development and construction of Shenzhen International Low Carbon City as the flagship project of Sino-European sustainable urbanization cooperation.

  • Shenzhen International Low Carbon City project has a total planning area of about 53 square kilometers, with a total of 5 square kilometers of Gaoqiao Park and the surrounding area as the expansion area, of which about 1 square kilometer of the core area as the start-up area. The construction area of it is about 1.8 million square meters, and the construction period is 7 years.

     

    As the flagship project of Sino-European cooperation on sustainable urbanization, Shenzhen International Low Carbon City will strive to build a comprehensive experimental area for national low-carbon development, with its strategic positioning as:

    • Climate-Friendly City Pilot Zone
    • New Low-Carbon Industry Cluster Zone
    • Low-Carbon Lifestyle Leading Zone
    • Low-Carbon International Cooperation Demonstration Zone
